Overall I would say that all of your recordings are usable, and all show about the same -40 to -45 dB ambient noise-floor from the room you are recording in. ( your headphone recording is about 6 to 8 dB quieter than your other recordings, so when you bring it up to the same loudness as the other recordings it shows the same noise-floor ) I don't get the noise if I use the Zoom as an audio interface, for example on the iPad.Ĭhecking all of your recordings, the actual noise-floor is about the same -40 to -45 dB when you correct for the differences in loudness. I am wondering if there's something I have missed here? Any thoughts and advice would be welcomed. I have experimented with various recording levels on the A7 and line out levels on the Zoom but I am yet to find anything that eliminates that noise (even to the levels of the headphone jack output. Here is the audio I recorded using the passive Saramonic SR-AX100 mixer (mic connected via 3.5mm to XLR) and same line out cable as previous tests used. Here is the audio recorded using the headphone out jack Here is the audio recorded with the F6 line out levels calibrated via tone (-33.5db) to match -6db on the A7.

Here is the audio recorded with F6 line out levels set to zero: Here is the audio recorded directly into the Zoom F6: I calibrated the A7 from the -6db tone levels outputted by the F6 (for the line out this came to -33.5db and for the headphone out this was a headphone level of 50) The Sony A7iii audio record level was set at 1. I tried multiple cables from the Zoom to the A7, all exhibited the same noise. I used a Rode NTG4+ as the mic, connected to the Zoom. Strangely it's not there if I plug the Zoom's headphone jack into the A7's mic input. However, I am experiencing a large amount of noise from the F6's line out jack into the camera. Ideally I want to use the audio recorded into the camera as a single system. I shoot video and interviews as a one-man band with a Sony A7iii and am trialling a Zoom F6 recorder to improve the audio/act as a backup.
